Dear Parent,
I'm sure you are thinking, how can karate
training really benefit my child. You may be thinking
"my child can get upset at times and lose his or her temper. Why
would I want to arm them with the skills to use kicks and
punches?" You may also be thinking, "how can martial arts
training teach values and life skills my child can use in his or her
young life?" Well, I'm here to tell you all the ways that our
program can benefit your child in a positive way.
My name is Steve Giroux, Owner and Head
Instructor of Giroux Bros. Martial Arts in Newtonville, MA.
For 17 years now, I have been teaching children like yours character
building tools found only in karate. These tools are not found
in other sports. Unlike other programs, we teach our students
valuable life skills as part of their program. Not only are
students tested on their martial arts skills but each testing period
they are required to complete a short homework assignment that will
help them truly understand how each valuable life skill affects
their life. We take a sincere interest in all of our students
and want them to succeed in a difficult world.
Have you ever found yourself:
-
Concerned
about your child's level of self-control?
-
Wishing your
child had greater ability to listen...to focus?
-
Wondering,
painfully, if your son or daughter has the self-esteem it takes to
be successful?
-
Concerned
that your son or daughter would rather play video games or watch
TV. than socialize with others?
-
Upset that
your child is overweight and no extra curricular program you've
enrolled them in sparks their interest?
Well, you're not alone! Even though
we want our children to be healthy, happy, and confident--they are
confronted with an increasingly complicated and difficult
world.
Our children's
program is designed to reinforce strength of character in youth
members. While your child’s body is strengthened through exercise,
they also learn goal setting, respect, and discipline. Watch
as your child increases in energy, spirit, and confidence. A
child's first challenge in life is not learned from "beating up the
school yard bully". It comes from overcoming something far
more dangerous. I'm talking about your child's own
fears and self doubts:
-
"I don't get it, I'm
stupid."
-
"I wish I was as
popular as Kate."
-
"Why am I always the
last one to get picked?"
-
"I'll never be as smart
as Joe."
So the real question is, how do you get
your child to overcome these fears and self doubts? The good
news is that we have a proven program that will help your child
overcome these fears. Students at our studio will gain
confidence as they progress through their belts, truly understand
how the life skills taught affects their life, and improve their
grades. Our program also teaches students about goal setting
and perseverance. Let's face it...life is not easy. We
all have been confronted with obstacles in our life. How we handle
these situations is what determines our sense of character. I
feel that when children use the discipline that karate has to offer
to overcome and conquer their fears they will be able to transfer
that discipline to other areas in their life. I've see countless
children improve their life as a result of our program whether it
was in school, social situations, or at home. But don't take
my word for it...
Steve,
On behalf of the Board of
Directors of the Peirce Extended Day Program I wanted to
congratulate you on your ten year anniversary of Giroux Brothers
Martial Arts. It is a testament to you as a teacher and your
relationship with our children to have been able to make this
business successful. Almost everyone who serves on the
Board of EDP has had children take martial arts classes offered by
you at EDP and we all speak so highly of the program. We are
thrilled to have your classes as part of our program’s
offerings.
Again,
congratulations.

I had an almost weepy
moment while watching the belt testing today, realizing the
magic you make in that studio! As a watcher of human
behavior, I find it amazing the range that you have
in that group. From the intensely gifted students who
are clearly flying through the ranks, to those who are making
slower progress, to the ones who still goof off too
much. However, you have done a truly incredible job of
bringing out the best in so many young people. Not only
is it inspiring to watch the most gifted of your students, it
is equally inspiring to see the nurturing and patience you
have shown to many of the others, and to see how far they have
come.
I said
to another mom that I wish I did as well at home as you
do in the studio in determining when to ignore little
infractions and when to firmly, but quietly, get the kids in
line. As parents, we would also be lucky to be able to
be able to learn how to motivate our kids as effectively as
you do.
You
really have a gift with your students and I am
thrilled that our family has gotten to be a part of that.

"My 6-yr
old daughter, Morgan, asked me if she could take karate
lessons. I chose Giroux Bros mostly because it was close to my
house, but also because Mr. Giroux was so pleasant to my daughter
and me when I first called. I have been very pleased with
Giroux Bros Martial Arts. Morgan’s lessons go beyond karate to
whole life values like self confidence, diligence and
respect.
Now my
other daughter, Devon, studies at Giroux Bros too. They like all of their
teachers, the classes are fun, and extra programs are offered which nicely round
out their experience. I like that the staff is friendly and approachable. They
have always responded promptly when I had a question or suggestion.
Devon
and Morgan are just completing the Dragons program and will soon be advancing to
Eagles. They are both excited and I am very proud. I am also happy that they
have learned a lesson that I think is so important: That with dedication and
perseverance they can reach their goals!
If you
are considering karate for yourself or your children, visit Giroux Bros – you’ll
like what you see!"

“Since my son
Mark has been taking classes with Steve, I have noticed he matured a
bit. He now thinks before he acts, which is a big step for
him.
Mark is a 6 year old boy who is filled with a lot of worry since my husband
who is a US Marine has been deployed to Iraq
. He had
this constant fear that something bad may happen to his Dad and there are a lot
of different thoughts running through his little head. I feel with the
Karate classes he has been taking they have made him grow a lot more confident
and in return that has given him more confidence in his father knowing he is a
very strong and smart man, which has eased his worries.
